Our parish is a busy place, and not just on Sunday mornings. During the week, our kitchen hums as volunteers prepare meals for the homeless. In a workroom our God’s Precious Preemies knit clothing for pre-mature infants. In the hall, many hands cut, decorate and sew comfort blankets. We have choir rehearsals, prayer groups, religious education classes, and youth ministry. We have the Gardening Angels who continually work to beautify the landscaping and plant food for the food bank. In the Education Building we have numerous volunteers preparing for the festival. We have many organizations and ministries for men and women; too many to name them all. It is all people doing what they love and doing it for the good of others.
God has given each of us some talent or skill, not just for our own use but for the benefit of all. The ease of its burden is that God asks us to give what we have and not take on something we are not; it is the joy and satisfaction we experience in contributing the work we love for the good of our families, our church, and our community. So with hope and promise, may we hitch up our skills and talents and take on Jesus’ work of creating the Kingdom of God.
